Status update:
Now with 100,000 miles!
i have finally deployed some much needed updates as well as some resource restructuring of my hosted system. i broke a few things (php-curl), i fixed a few things (wordpress plugins). For the first time in ages, i am looking forward to my AWS bill. AND. . . i may actually be federated.
Half a million Wifi access points discovered! I’ve also integrated the Raspberry Pi Foundation 7 inch touch display into the phone compartment on my Tesla center console. This allows me to see the status of the scan as well as change operating modes. There are almost no light leaks with the lid closed, but at night the screen is washed out in photos. A usb port was added for convenience. I will want to clean up the USB port and add some physical buttons.
Most of the people i follow have already departed twitter. It hasn’t been useful for a while. now, it’s not even amusing. I’ve moved to @be3n@mastodon.social. I will still syndicate posts from this site to twitter and the twitter feed will also remain (for now). I’ve already added Mastodon syndication and feed. (assuming this posts makes it there). Exciting.
Mama Musubi is something I’ve loved from my farmers market for years. Unfortunately it was shuddered during the pandemic and still has not returned to my market. They did open up in a shared kitchen of sorts in Pasadena called Kitchen United. It was to this location that my desperation would bring me. The spot is mostly for delivery drivers and doesn’t have much for customer service. The menu is a little different from what was offered and entered by app or kiosk. It was amazing to enjoy after the long absence, but not exactly the same thing i was craving. Maybe i’ll try them at one of the other markets where they still operate.

EDIT 2024 (March 29):
It appears even this site is now gone. ?
I’ve played with Big Sur, but i’ve had serious reservations about running it on one of my primary machines. Apple backpedaled a bit on some of their decisions and i decided i didn’t have enough problems in my life. So tonight i’m jumping in with both feet to see how it goes and what breaks. This may turn out to be a huge mistake. We’ll soon see.
Not off to a great start so far. Upgrades beget upgrades. After a few rounds of up updating my 3rd party software my system is humming even better than before. Finder is still clunky and has a tendency to hang in the most annoying ways, but they’ve added a few new tricks and an updated look. Am i the only one who misses the brushed metal phase of UI?
My Drobo has been acting up since last week. I couldn’t get speeds over 40MB/sec for a while i wasn’t seeing anything faster than 25MB/sec. I read all the forums and i was on deadline to return some customer data. I put hours into this only to get to 35MB/sec. The final answer was actually a stupid one i read in a forum but didn’t put much stock in. My favorite part of USB-C is that it doesn’t matter which way you plug it in. At least that is what i thought. Turns out that with some Drobo 5c it does matter. After flipping the port, i’m back to useful speeds. It’s even mentioned in the Drobo 5c FAQ.
