Throwback Thursday – be3n’s boyhood home!

be3n boyhood room 4upI found more pictures of my old bedroom recently.  Below, I cleared out my bed to install a pull out sofa (seen in next frame).  It turned my high school room into quite the hangout.  Also on display were some art and other decorations from that era.  If you look closely, you can find Pez, impressionists paintings, comics, Magic packs, and a Sun optical mouse/mousepad.  I wonder what others will find.  My room’s walls were quite the collage.  I’ve added more pictures including this 4up from my Nickelodeon Photo Blaster.  Can you find Audio/Video tapes next to the original Nintendo?  enjoy.

ComicCon 2014 is done and we had a blast!

ComicCon 2014 Costume be3n Chewbacca Bath RobeOur visit to San Diego is over, but the memories live on. I usually post as I go, but the cell service was so atrocious at the convention center, I couldn’t do any more then text from the convention floor. Here are some of my pics.  I think i’ll start with the bath robe I almost bought.  It was luxuriously soft and made me look like my favorite Wookie.

This year I explored the free open to all NerdHQ that was set up at Petco Park.  it was pretty cool with lots of video game demos, panels,  and other neat stuff.  Some of the neatest was a display from Stupid Buddy Studios the stop motion guys who bring us Robot Chicken, among many other fun projects.

This guy actually controls the camera setup during the shoots with this modified Nintendo Power Glove. Love the retooled retro cool.  I also learned about the culture of their office.  It is themed like a scout troupe complete with patches awarded for projects completed and woodland wall paper in their LA offices.  See some of the patches sewn into uniform shirts reminiscent of brownie uniforms of the 80s.

Of course I love it when the locals get in on the fun. See the ingenious technique used by a local cafe to get extra tips.  (DC was killing it)

Art Show 2011 presented by Mr Brainwash in LA!

I visited the show just before closing yesterday.  It was overflowing with street art.  Literally.  it seemed as though paint and scrawled graffiti radiated from the warehouse.  The installation itself was huge.  More then four floors of the warehouse were open to the public.  Full of sculptures, automobiles, and appliances made art.  This was a concentrated example of the phenomena that is street art.  At times the senses are overwhelmed by the sheer quantity of detail.  Admission was free, as were the posters.  Mr brainwash and many of the featured artists were there signing posters.  here are a few of my favorites from the show. . .

Topanga Days! Music, Fun, and competitive eating.

Topanga Days 2011 CrowdsI attended Topanga’s anual fair. There was much excitement, great music, and some phenomenal costumes. We were having such a great time, we hardly noticed that Forest’s beer had been pilfered by Andy Dick. We discovered some great bands (like Afrobeat Down & Clare Means). I even entered the anual Pie Eating Competition. As my first go at competitive eating, i did fairly well, but i have a few pro tips for those interested. First off, don’t sit next to the craziest person in the competition. Don’t wear clothes you care about (not even as a spectator) and watch out for your nose. (I’m still pulling blueberries out of my nose)
