My dad and his Performa 6500!

My dad and his Apple Performa 6500 This priceless gem I found only recently.  My father with his Apple Performa 6500.  Not sure exactly when this was taken, but I love the Sherlock shirt he’s got on.  This was half a dozen towers ago for him.  Dad’s always loved technology.  He got me started in all this.  Thanks dad.

GeForce Bootcamp Issues fixed with a tool for gamers!

GeForce Logo

So I had a bit of trouble with some bootcamp machines running the Nvidia GeForce 9400 in both Windows 7 & 8.  Intermittently they would boot without video.  Not right away, initially, it would show video during initial startup.   However, as it got to the login screen, the screen would go distinctly blank.  I had installed the latest drivers from apple (Bootcamp Additions), even tried 3rd party drivers.  Nothing solved the problem, the best I could do was reduce the frequency of occurrence.  I was about to resign just to deal with it when a came upon GeForce Experience.  This is a software suite to optimize Nvidia graphics cards for gaming.  The  9400/9400M is certainly not a gamer card, but that doesn’t stop the Experience from identifying and installing proper drivers before reporting that no gaming optimizations are available.  Despite it’s inability to enhance my gaming, the tool certainly resolved all my driver issues.  I cannot recommend it highly enough.  Give it a go if your Nvidia drivers are making you crazy.

ComicCon 2014 is done and we had a blast!

ComicCon 2014 Costume be3n Chewbacca Bath RobeOur visit to San Diego is over, but the memories live on. I usually post as I go, but the cell service was so atrocious at the convention center, I couldn’t do any more then text from the convention floor. Here are some of my pics.  I think i’ll start with the bath robe I almost bought.  It was luxuriously soft and made me look like my favorite Wookie.

This year I explored the free open to all NerdHQ that was set up at Petco Park.  it was pretty cool with lots of video game demos, panels,  and other neat stuff.  Some of the neatest was a display from Stupid Buddy Studios the stop motion guys who bring us Robot Chicken, among many other fun projects.

This guy actually controls the camera setup during the shoots with this modified Nintendo Power Glove. Love the retooled retro cool.  I also learned about the culture of their office.  It is themed like a scout troupe complete with patches awarded for projects completed and woodland wall paper in their LA offices.  See some of the patches sewn into uniform shirts reminiscent of brownie uniforms of the 80s.

Of course I love it when the locals get in on the fun. See the ingenious technique used by a local cafe to get extra tips.  (DC was killing it)

Even Samsung had an amazing superhero inspired display made of their amazing devices.  Last, but certainly not least. . . Huge Thanks to Jenn!
