I finally got around to installed android on my old 2g. Thanks to the hard work from the guys over at http://iphodroid.com/ it’s easier then ever. here is a film i made of it booting up, enjoy. iphone-2g-boots-android or iphone-2g-boots-android-small.
since there is very little documentation on this, here is some quick advice:
thanks to great work by @comex and the rest of the iphone-dev team, we again have a userland jailbreak, and a return of jailbreakme.com. this works on all devices with most current 4.0.x iOS version. so make sure to back up your blobs if you want to keep it. (ps, yea. . . i called it. sunday is jailbreak day!)
For starters, i want to praise the hard work of everyone who made this possible. Not since iPhone OS 1.1.1 has jailbreaking been so easy it doesn’t require a restore, let alone a computer. Also, many jailbroken apps and hacks are not fully compatible with the new device/OS, be patient while developers update their apps.
UPDATE: numerous reports of FaceTime and MMS problems. I’m sure keyboards are a flurry working on the solution. if you are timid about this sort of thing, you might want to wait.
UPDATE: FaceTime/MMS prob fixed to new jailbreakers. People experiencing it from earlier jailbreak, still working on a fix. Fixed.
@planetbeing and @MuscleNerd have done some amazing work! I look forward to your release. I am sure there is much more work to be done.
The iPhone-dev team has announced iPhone 4 jailbreak thanks to another user land exploit from @comex. This is good news for all 4.0 devices although no release date has been given. I am sure that there is much work yet to be done.
i’ve been so busy that i’ve scarcely had time to mention that Apple released it’s new OS as well as the long awaited iphone 4 (just a few hours away). got yours yet? haven’t got hands on the new devise yet, but i finally installed 4 on my 3gs. If you’ve been waiting to upgrade because you unlock, or if you lost your unlock because of “accidentally” upgrading then you are in luck. Unless your a new bootlrom 3GS or you didn’t back up your blobs, you are most certainly stoked right now. 3G iphone and Touch 2g are upgradable, jailbreakable, and unlockable. the new base band (and all previous) have been unlocked. great work by @iphone_dev. Touch 3g users and new bootrom 3gs users are doomed for the moment, so be careful about “accidentally” upgrading. for now. once the new device gets in the right hands, it’s only a matter of time. and if you haven’t learned by now, BACK UP YOUR BLOBS!
lately it’s been all about the mobile devices. The big announcement was video chat, I take issue with the glaring oversights of this long awaited feature. First off, it requires wifi. That said, you would assume that it works though jabber or aim or some Internet based chat protocol. It doesn’t. It works with some new system that can ONLY video chat with other iPhones 4s. Multitasking and folders are exciting, but it looks like apple just copied the hacks already available to jailbreakers. Twice the screen resolution and the gyroscope are the features i cannot wait to try out. Lets see what AT$T has to say about my upgrade.

I finally picked it up! Backed up my blob and jailbroke it, all before leaving the mall. They were out of cases and every accessory i wanted, but i am excited to get this home and start the real fun. Big thanks to zay and all my other elves who worked to make this happen for me.

Spirit, the new jailbreak for ALL the latest apple toys is about to be released! BACKUP your blobs! expect an apple update immediately following the release! Spirit could be released as soon as tomorrow! To summarize, Spirit is an untethered jailbreak for all iPhones, iPod touches, and iPads.
you only need to backup your blobs if you have one of the newest devices like iPhone 3gs, the Touch 3gen, and any iPad. If you’ve been avoiding a jailbreak, you can use Umbrella to backup the pertinent info without modifying the device. I’ll write up a howto when I get a sec, but there are plenty out there.
